 About Us > KLRN Endowment

KLRN has an enduring commitment to the people living in south central Texas, a commitment to being a vital community resource that makes a positive difference, that touches people's lives. The KLRN Endowment Fund will enable KLRN to meet the promise of that commitment well into the next century. It will help ensure KLRN's ability to meet the demands of a new age with confidence, with strength and with a commitment to excellence.

We look to those who share this commitment to help us build on the successes of the past and secure KLRN's future.

Who initiated the Fund and when was it formed?

The KLRN Endowment Fund was initiated at the recommendation of the Alamo Public Telecommunications Council, the governing body of KLRN. The Fund was chartered on April 4, 1994 as a separate corporation.

Why was the Endowment Fund Inc. formed?

When it became apparent that federal funding for public television would be reduced, KLRN realized that it would have to seek alternate ways to build a secure base to protect the institution's ability to continue programming and service to the community.

The KLRN Endowment Fund was formed to provide long-term financial stability by generating a steady source of annual income to meet current needs and provide KLRN with growth.

More specifically, the Fund will:

  • secure the financial stability needed to link long-range planning with annual budgeting and performance appraisals;
  • enable the station to acquire and maintain state-of-the-art telecommunications capabilities needed to keep pace with changing technology;
  • enable KLRN to make long-range commitments necessary to improve the efficiency of station operations and local productions;
  • allow KLRN to maintain its lead in providing unparalleled educational services universal access to its outstanding programming , and community outreach activities.

How will the Endowment be funded?

Endowments are built, for the most part, with large gifts from individual, corporations and a few foundations. Most large gifts are made one time only to help establish an endowment which will result in meaningful income. However, planned gifts (those gifts which are part of the donor's estate plans) both large and small will account for a large portion of future endowment gifts. In addition, memorial and tribute gifts made in honor of persons and special events will assist in the growth of the Fund.
